Release Notes

This is the initial release, composing of a zip file with the full Visual Studio 2005 solution as well as a .wsp file for install of the SharePoint solution only.

Note that SPCurrentUsers will remain in beta indefinitely.

To install WSP, use STSADM to install the solution:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN\>stsadm –o addsolution –filename %PATH TO SPCURRENTUSERS%\SPCurrentUsers.wsp

Replace %PATH TO SPCURRENTUSERS% with the path to where you save the SPCurrentUsers.wsp file.

Next, go to Central Administration->Operations and deploy the solution.

Finally, activate the SPCurrentUsersSetup feature from Site Settings->Site features.

NOTE! Only activate the Setup feature. The Setup feature will activate the other features as required. Do not activate these manually.

For more information on how this solution is built, check out the Understanding SharePoint Journal, Volume 1, Issue 1

Reviews for this release

Be sure to follow the instructions and check the discussion board. This version is not meant for production servers, and I do not recommend using it on production unless you first fix all the bugs, performance issues, and permissions issues. However, it is a good tutorial on how to develop an app that does the user counts. I've uploaded a patched version of the source code to the SourceCode -> Patches section of this site. Check out the issues section for the patched version of the SPCurrentUsers.wsp with deployment scripts.
