Why use a custom list to store session timeouts?

Is there any additional insight on why you used a custom list to store session timeouts?

What if you used PropertyBag at the SPSite level?  You'll still be able to use your manage page.  The only downside is you'll lose all the functionality a SharePoint list brings when viewing that data.  But now, administrators don't have an extra list to manage and secure.

A list is a far easier tool to manage than a set of custom properties. If one wants to make changes, you would need tools such as SPManager or custom management functionality. If administrators think that having an extra list is too much to handle, they can simply ignore it, or remove it from visibility.
